Gov’t spox: Combating fuel smuggling is a national demand

SHANA (Tehran) – The government spokesperson said fuel smuggling is a key issue on the administration’s agenda and is naturally one of the people’s national demands.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting, Fatemeh Mohajerani said the meeting reviewed the responsibilities of executive bodies under the Seventh Development Plan, as well as outstanding financial and non-financial obligations.

Additionally, the oil minister presented a report on increasing oil and petrochemical exports and the development of the Azadegan joint oil field.

In response to a question about the government’s approach to engaging with Donald Trump’s administration, Mohajerani said, "The government's foreign policy is naturally based on the positions of the entire ruling establishment, and the executive branch follows through on policies agreed upon at that level."

Regarding the country’s strategic reserves, she reassured that there are no concerns in this area. “The government, with the efforts of the minister of agriculture jihad, has prioritized securing essential and strategic reserves,” she said.

On the issue of fuel smuggling, Mohajerani emphasized that the government is actively addressing the problem, which remains a major public concern.

"Significant measures have been taken in the past two to three weeks, yielding positive results," she stated.

"Fuel smugglers operate in organized networks, and authorities have successfully identified many key figures within these networks. Currently, around 2 million liters of smuggled fuel are being seized daily, and this number is expected to rise. More updates on this matter will be announced soon."
