Fatemeh Mohajerani, speaking at a press conference on Tuesday at the Phase 14 refinery in South Pars, Asaluyeh, emphasized that 70% of the country’s gas is produced in Asaluyeh and reaches households within 24 hours, ensuring warmth across Iran during the winter.
Mohajerani highlighted that Iran is the world’s second-largest holder of natural gas reserves and the third-largest producer.
She noted that the winter warmth in homes is made possible by the hard work of oil industry employees and described Asaluyeh as an industrial marvel, showcasing domestic capabilities and the principles of a resilient economy.
The spokesperson also mentioned the recent visit of Abdolnaser Hemmati, Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, to Saudi Arabia, where he met with Abdulhamid Al-Khalifa, head of the OPEC Fund for International Development.
The visit resulted in favorable agreements allowing Iranian contractors and technical service providers to access financial resources provided by the fund.
Addressing energy imbalances, Mohajerani explained that these issues did not arise overnight. She praised the 14th administration’s efforts to engage directly with the public.
She noted that, according to the oil minister, oil and gas reserves for power plants must be prepared and replenished in the first five months of the year. As of early September 2024, reserves were 40-45% lower compared to the same period in 2023, partly due to 800,000 new gas connections, which have contributed to the imbalance.
To address these challenges, Mohajerani said imports of oil, gas, and gasoline have increased. She reiterated that modernizing power plants and promoting energy efficiency remain key government priorities.
She also clarified that there is no conflict between the Oil and Energy ministries, as both are working diligently to fulfill their roles. For instance, 137 million cubic meters of gas and 56 million liters of oil were delivered to power plants the previous day.
Mohajerani empasized that the public is not to blame for energy issues, but infrastructure development is essential. She praised Asaluyeh as a source of national pride and a testament to Iran’s industrial achievements, thanking oil industry workers for their efforts.
