NIOC head calls work in Khuzestan’s heat a national endeavor

SHANA (Tehran) – The CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) emphasized the importance of serving the people of Khuzestan and the company’s commitment to job creation and fulfilling social responsibilities in the region, stating, “Working in the hot regions of Khuzestan is a great endeavor.”

Speaking on Thursday during a planning and development council meeting for the counties of Omidiyeh, Aghajari, and Hendijan at the Aghajari Oil and Gas Operating Company, Hamid Bovard highlighted the challenges of working in Khuzestan’s tropical areas.

He said, “It is our duty to serve the people of Khuzestan, and we are striving to create employment opportunities not only in the oil industry but also in other economic sectors.”

Referring to the company’s commitment to social responsibilities, Bovard added, “Some necessary measures can be implemented as part of the company’s social responsibilities. We annually report the pollution share of various cities to the tax affairs and planning and budget organizations. Unfortunately, the pollution share has decreased from 1% to 0.5%, and it is essential for members of parliament to follow up on this issue.”

The CEO of the NIOC also stressed the importance of prioritizing local hiring in oil industry operational areas, saying, “Our hiring is heavily based on local selection. However, local communities should also consider developing non-oil activities and alternative revenue streams. The National Iranian Oil Company will do everything in its power to support the people of this region and will not fall short in this regard.”

Prioritizing, addressing issues in Omidiyeh Energy Zone

On the sidelines of the administrative council meeting for Khuzestan counties, Bovard stated, “I attended these meetings on behalf of the government, and the majority of the people’s logical and rightful concerns were summarized. We have worked to address issues related to the oil industry and will bring them to the attention of the president.”

Regarding the challenges in Omidiyeh, he added, “The primary demand of the people of Omidiyeh relates to the Energy Zone project, which has been under consideration for years. We hope that resolving this issue will address many of the county’s problems. We are making every effort to bring this matter to a resolution within the oil and petrochemical sectors.”

The CEO of the NIOC also addressed the issues in Hendijan County, emphasizing, “In this region, shoreline development and environmental concerns are among the top priorities for the people. We are working diligently to ensure these demands are met soon.”

Speaking about the situation in Aghajari County, Bovard noted, “During his recent visit, the oil minister was briefed firsthand on the challenges facing this city. It was decided that these issues would be presented to the president during the provincial administrative council meeting.”
