Alvand rig to join Iranian offshore drilling fleet soon

SHANA (Tehran) – The overhaul of the Alvand offshore drilling rig is in its final stages in the Kish operational area and will soon join the Iranian Offshore Oil Co.’s drilling fleet.

According to the company, a task force meeting on expediting the overhaul and commissioning of the Alvand rig was held with the participation of Salman Khosravi, deputy managing director in the Kish region.

The meeting, aimed at removing obstacles and improving project execution, included a progress report from Kish regional manager Mohammad Ranjbar, who thanked the company’s managing director for comprehensive support.

With the project’s executive management team present, participants discussed ways to speed up various processes and agreed on steps to ensure the rig’s near-term addition to the fleet.

The Alvand overhaul is being completed by Iranian Offshore Oil Co. personnel, with support from domestic contractors in the Kish region.

Alvand is a repair rig tasked with overhauling and securing wells in the Siri operational area. From 2018 to 2021, it repaired and secured between 10 and 12 wells annually, boosting the area’s output by an average of 5,000 barrels per day.
