Speaking on Tuesday during a meeting with Shahin Mustafayev, Azerbaijan’s deputy prime minister, Pezeshkian highlighted the agreements and joint projects underway in trade, energy, and transportation between the two countries.
Pezeshkian described the relationship between Iran and Azerbaijan as brotherly, friendly, and rooted in religious and familial ties.
He noted that the close ties between the two nations transcend geographical boundaries and have always been, and will continue to be, enduring.
Pezeshkian also underscored the special importance of Azerbaijan in Iran’s foreign policy, stating that the Islamic Republic prioritizes expanding relations and interactions with neighboring and Muslim-majority countries as a fundamental policy.
He added that Azerbaijan holds particular significance in this regard, and Iran seeks to enhance bilateral relations across all fields.
During the meeting, Mustafayev conveyed warm greetings from Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Pezeshkian.
He emphasized that shared religious and cultural ties, as well as the friendly and brotherly relations between the two countries, are the primary drivers for strengthening and developing their partnership.
Mustafayev added that both sides are working to outline a roadmap for further expanding these ties.
The deputy PM also expressed the belief that regional issues can only be resolved by the countries within the region, stating that the involvement of foreign nations would not be beneficial.
Additionally, he extended an invitation from President Aliyev to Pezeshkian to visit Azerbaijan.
The meeting took place as Mustafayev led a delegation to Tehran to participate in the 16th Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan.
