On Saturday, Ahmad Mahdavi-Abhari, during the signing ceremony of an MoU between the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) and Zagros Petrochemical Company aimed at utilizing this petrochemical plant’s capacity in the nationwide gas and electricity consumption reduction campaign, said the agreement is a significant step toward addressing the country’s energy shortfall.
He stressed that there are only three solutions to the energy imbalance: investment, conservation, and optimal consumption. "With this MoU, gas savings will be achieved by encouraging citizens and through investments by Zagros Petrochemical in one of the colder northern provinces," Mahdavi-Abhari added.
The secretary-general also praised the support of Abbaszadeh, CEO of the NPC, in executing this initiative, expressing hopes that the project will expand to other provinces next year, creating significant savings.
Mahdavi-Abhari emphasized that power plants are the second-largest consumers of gas in the country, after the residential sector, and stressed that these plants need to be converted to combined-cycle systems to reduce consumption.
He noted that the petrochemical industry, a key sector in the country, is the first industry to invest in consumption savings and is ready to participate in any feasible projects.
The MoU between the NPC and Zagros Petrochemical Company, signed on Saturday, aims to manage consumption, promote energy efficiency, and implement the nationwide campaign to reduce gas and electricity consumption by 10% in the residential and commercial sectors.
The agreement was signed by Hassan Abbaszadeh, CEO of NPC, and Matin Didari, CEO of Zagros Petrochemical Company.
