Reducing Indoor temperature by two degrees saves energy equivalent to two phases of SP production

SHANA (Tehran) - The vice chairman of the Energy Committee in the Iranian Parliament said reducing the indoor temperature by 2 degrees Celsius could save as much energy as the production of two phases of the South Pars gas field.

In an interview with Shana, Ramezanali Sangdovini discussed the ongoing energy conservation campaign and the current electricity and gas shortages.

He explained that reducing ambient temperature by 2 degrees could save about 50 million cubic meters of gas, which is equivalent to the production of two phases of the South Pars gas field.

He added that many older buildings still fail to comply with Section 19 of the National Building Regulations. While construction costs are high, he noted, people are still making efforts to conserve energy.

Sangdovini stressed that energy savings should start with government and administrative systems.

He suggested that if the public responds to the President Masoud Pezeshkian’s calls for energy conservation, the country could make it through the cold season more smoothly.

Addressing environmental issues with lower consumption

Karim Masoumi, a member of the Parliament, also commented on the president’s call for a 2-degree reduction in home temperatures, saying that, given the gas shortages affecting electricity production in thermal power plants, the best way to manage the energy crisis is through cooperation across all sectors of society.

Masoumi called reducing temperatures by 2 degrees one of the simplest and most effective ways to relieve pressure on the energy grid.

He urged the public to join the energy-saving initiative, helping prevent power outages during the colder months.

The lawmaker, who is a member of the Judiciary Committee of the Parliament, added that this campaign not only reduces stress on the national energy system but also contributes to solving environmental issues.

Following predictions of cold weather and temperature drops, President Pezeshkian, Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad, and other government officials launched the "2 Degrees Less" campaign, urging the public to participate in energy-saving efforts to ensure efficient fuel use and meet winter heating needs.
