Gov’t spokesperson: Gasoline price hike not on agenda despite supply imbalance

SHANA (Tehran) – The government spokesperson said that while the imbalance in gasoline supply is a reality, there are no plans to increase gasoline prices.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Fatemeh Mohajerani highlighted the issue of gasoline imbalance, saying, "If we are currently facing imbalances, it is because we have not addressed the root causes and have only applied temporary fixes.”

She went on to say that gasoline imbalance is a fact, and we have two strategies to address it: importing fuel or raising prices. However, it is clear that raising gasoline prices is not on the government's agenda.

Responding to a question about the government’s approach to implementing the Clean Air Act and reducing pollution, Mohajerani said that addressing air pollution requires both short- and long-term solutions, much like other issues the country faces.

She emphasized that short-term measures, such as implementing odd-even traffic regulation and temporarily shutting down certain facilities to reduce harm, are being carried out.

However, she noted that some actions are long-term, including phasing out aging vehicle fleets, improving the quality of fuel used in vehicles, power plants, and other facilities requiring fuel.

Mohajerani also announced that diversifying the energy mix and focusing on clean energy are among the government’s key strategies.

"The government has planned to produce 30,000 megawatts of solar power, and we hope to benefit from solar energy next year. Naturally, identifying sources of pollution and focusing on reducing emissions are also being actively pursued," she added.
