Lawmaker sees bright future for Iran oil industry

SHANA (Tehran) – A bright future is awaiting Iran’s oil industry, said the Parliament’s Energy Committee vice-chairman on Sunday.

Ahmad Moradi added the country’s oil, gas, and petrochemical sectors achieved stunning growth in the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 19.

The oil industry has made remarkable progress despite economic problems, including the sanctions, said the lawmaker, adding even the important contract on boosting pressure in the South Pars joint gas field was signed few days before the New Year, which will play a major role in redressing gas imbalance.

Although many cities and villages of the country have been supplied with gas, the gas megaprojects are still ongoing, he pointed out.

The petrochemical industry has played an effective role in the foreign exchange market so that a large percentage of the country’s hard currency is provided by the industry, underlined the legislator, pointing to its important role in increasing non-oil exports and economic growth.

Moradi said the oil industry registered the highest economic growth when compared to other sectors, expressing hope its progress will continue more speedily in the current year.

The Oil Ministry has created a barrier against the sanctions by utilizing big domestic companies, including knowledge-based firms, he concluded.
