Raeisi urges action to optimize energy consumption

SHANA (Tehran) – Iran’s president on Thursday urged executive organizations to take effective action on optimization of energy consumption.

Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi said the Supreme Council of Energy is in charge of improving energy efficiency, ordering the executive bodies to cooperate with the council and offer solutions to it.

The president made the remarks in a council meeting on redressing energy imbalance, optimizing energy consumption, and financing projects of increasing energy output capacities.

Oil Ministry projects

On Monday, Iran’s Oil Minister Javad Owji said $36 billion projects for optimizing energy consumption in different sectors have been offered to the Supreme Economic Council.

Addressing the opening ceremony of Iran Energy Efficiency Conference (IREEC 2023), he assured that a major part of the country’s energy imbalance will be addressed if “we optimize consumption in an appropriate way”.

Oil and gas imbalance is an important issue that should be settled through increasing production and optimizing consumption, noted the minister.

Although oil and gas production has risen in the country, “we have to optimize consumption”, he underlined.

“Today, the country’s oil output has reached 3.19 million barrels per day (bpd) and one billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas are produced a day,” said Owji, adding the country’s oil production capacity stands at 3.85m bpd.
