Raeisi: Iran-Oman ties promoted from trade to investment

SHANA (Tehran) – Iran’s President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi here on Sunday said Iran-Oman relations have been promoted from commercial stage to investment phase.

The president made the remarks in a meeting with Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said and his accompanying delegation, naming the sectors of energy, industry, trade, communications, defense and security affairs, road and rail lines, maritime transport and transit, and financial and monetary exchanges as capacities of the two countries for expanding their cooperation.

Tehran and Muscat have same views and stances on the promoting of regional cooperation, security, and peace.

The Omani sultan, for his part, said bilateral and regional cooperation have witnessed “stunning” progress since the Iranian president paid a visit to Oman last year.

Although the two countries’ trade volume has doubled, Iran-Oman ties, thanks to their diverse and suitable capacities, are far from a favorable level.

Cooperation documents

The cooperation document was inked by Iran’s Oil Minister Javad Owji and Omani Minister of Energy and Minerals Salim bin Nasser al-Aufi.

The two countries signed three other documents to cooperate in economic, investment, and free zones sectors.

Oil and economy ministers and the Supreme Council of Free Trade-Industrial and Special Economic Zones secretary general from Iran and ministers of energy, economy and trade of Oman signed the cooperation documents.
