TEHRAN -- Deputy managing director of Iran Fuel Conservation Organization (IFCO) noted that a recent approval by the Cabinet has paved the way for speeding up building 105 compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel stations throughout the country.
The Cabinet approval has obliged ministries of road and transportation; and interior as well as Tehran Municipality to issue needed permits for building such stations in big cities and along major roads, at most one month after requested by IFCO.
Surena Sattari added that finding suitable plot of land and receiving needed facilities for stations will take a long time.
"At present, there are 30 CNG fuel stations and about 30 more stations are waiting for water, electricity and gas supply," he noted.
The official stated that during the first phase of the project, IFCO will build 180 CNG stations up to the end of the Iranian year 1384 (March 2006), of which 105 stations will be made operational this year.
The private sector is also planning to build CNG stations and, so far, 200 agreements have been signed in this regard.
