Azar Development Project on Verge of Commissioning

TEHRAN (Shana) – The operator of Azar oil field development project said the cumulative output of the project in the early production phase has been above 30 million barrels so far and it is on the verge of full operation with a progress of about 97%.

Keyvan Yarahmadi, who is with the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC), during a visit of a number of MPs to the development plan of Azar oil field on Saturday, stated the contract for the development of the field was signed back in 2012 between Oil Industries' Engineering and Construction (OIEC) and the Investment Fund of Petroleum Industry to be implemented in two stages: early production and the first phase; the first phase of the project is currently on the verge of exploitation.

He said in the early production section of the project, 9 wells were drilled and 129 km of 16-inch pipelines were laid, adding in the first phase of the project, 11 new wells have been spudded and 61 km of new oil and gas transmission lines have been laid.

The official noted the complexities of Azar joint field from technical and specialized aspects, including the type of drilling, and added: “In this project, 70 million uninterrupted and accident-free working hours were registered.”

Yarahmadi stated that the share of domestic manufacturing in development of the project was 75%, adding 55% of the human workforce active in the project were from neighboring cities.

According to him, the central processing unit of this field has been operational since the July 26, and this field will be ready to send sweet oil to Cheshmeh Khosh by November.

Azar Field is located in Anaran block of Ilam province and is one of the joint oil fields of the country.
