PRTC Vows to Indigenize Strategic Catalysts by 2021

TEHRAN (Shana) – The CEO of the Petrochemical Research and Technology Company (PRTC) said that the company was planning to domestically manufacture all the strategic catalysts used in the petrochemical industry by 2021.

Speaking on the sidelines of a ceremony to sign a contract to supply methanol catalysts at the 24th Iran Oil Show, Ali Pajouhan said that PRTC had been operating in the field of catalysts for over a decade.

He said the company was now capable of producing key catalysts used for production of petrochemical products, adding, “We have developed the technological cycle of the catalysts and have so far produced an acceptable amount of items.”

The official said that the produced catalysts had been certified by two international organization and their quality had been guaranteed.

PRTC signed a contract with Sabalan Petrochemical Company for supplying domestically produced catalysts for methanol production on Saturday (May 4).

The ceremony was attended by the firms’ managing directors, Ali Pajouhan and Mohammad Zali respectively, CEO of National Petrochemical Company Behzad Mohammadi and Saeed Mohammadzadeh, the deputy petroleum minister for engineering, research and technology.

Processing natural gas into petrochemicals has become highly important, given that Iran sits on huge natural gas reserves and in view of the difficulty involved in exporting natural gas on one hand, and the need to create added value on the other.

As a high value-added product, Methanol is used as a raw material in many downstream and upstream industries.

Iran’s methanol production capacity stands at over five million tons per year. The figure is expected to reach 15.6 million tons by 2021.

The 24th Iran International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition (Tehran Oil Show 2019) began on Wednesday (May 1) and ends today (Saturday, May 4).
