SP. 17, 18 Ready for Inauguration

TEHRAN, Apr. 11 (Shana) -- Phases 17 and 18 of the supergiant South Pars Gas Field, AKA SP. 17 and 18, are ready for official inauguration.

Development of the two projects began in 2006 and were supposed to end up after a 52-month period but their inauguration was hindered by the US-led sanctions on Tehran's nuclear program, said Mohammad Reza Chlipa, operator of the project, a while ago.

He said under President Rouhani's administration construction of the project was prioritized and accelerated and a huge progress was made in its completion.

Located 104 km off the coast of Assalouyeh in the Persian Gulf, southern Iran, the two phases include four offshore platforms with 44 wells.

Two 34-inch pipelines deliver the gas recovered from the phases to onshore refining facilities.

Chalipa says construction of the refining facilities of the two phases was one of the biggest challenge of the project because they had to be built different from other South Pars refineries.

He said the project was 100% completed by domestic developers.

Development plan of phases 17&18 is aimed at producing 50 mcm of gas, 80 barrels of gas condensate and 400 tons of sulfur per day.

An Iranian consortium comprising Iran’s Industrial Development and Renovation Organization (IDRO), Oil Industries Engineering and Construction Company (OIEC) and Iran’s Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC) respectively with 48, 31 and 21 percent is in charge of developing the phases.
