Iran Launches FSU Oil Terminal in Persian Gulf

TEHRAN Feb 08(Shana)--Iran has launched the world's biggest FSU oil exports terminal with the storage capacity of 2.2mn oil barrels in the Persian Gulf's Bahregan region.

The terminal exports crude oil recovered from Soroush and Norouz fields.

Floating storage unit (FSU) of the terminal is the largest one in the world being 337 meters long, 60m wide and 33m high.

The storage unit weighs 51,400 tons and comprises 21 storage tanks with the total capacity of 2.2 million barrels of crude oil.
The offshore facility receives 200,000 b/d from the fields. Given the unit's two-layer body, the risk of leakage and contamination of Persian Gulf waters is minimized.

Increasing storage capacity of exported oil to over two million barrels, improved accuracy of measuring by ultrasonic devices, raising production capacity from Soroush and Norouz fields, minimizing environmental concerns in the Persian Gulf, raising safety of operations and domesticating construction of high tech oil terminals are some of the main features of the tanker.

The terminal is operated by Iran Offshore Oil Company (IOOC) which is among the top offshore oil producers in the world.

With half a century experience, it is currently running projects on more than 1,200 square kilometers of Persian Gulf waters.
