Keramat Veys-Karami stated that power plant fuel stockpiling begins at the start of each Iranian year (March 21). He noted that from March 21 to April 22 this year, an average of 33 million liters of gas oil was delivered daily to power plants—a 46% rise compared to the 22 million liters supplied in the same period last year.
He added that fuel oil deliveries in the 33-day period grew by 25% year-over-year, resulting in an overall 36% increase in combined power plant fuel (diesel and mazut) deliveries.
Veys-Karami reported that power plants consumed an average of 27 million liters of diesel per day in the first 33 days of this year, compared to 10 million liters daily in the same period last year—a 170% surge in consumption.
Rising liquid fuel reserves for power plants
Veys-Karami said that in the first 33 days of 2024, a total of 1.88 billion liters of liquid fuel were delivered to power plants. Of this, 1.36 billion liters were consumed, leaving a current gas oil reserve of 955 million liters as of April 21—a 265 million-liter increase from the 690 million liters recorded in the same period last year.
He also noted that power plants’ usable mazut reserves now stand at 1.07 billion liters, up by 84 million liters from 986 million liters last year.
Improved fuel supply trends
The CEO emphasized that power plant fuel deliveries have shown an upward trend compared to last year, with supplies exceeding Oil Ministry targets in the second half of last year.
