POGC: Oil sector supports power grid stability

SHANA (Tehran) – The CEO of Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) said the first steam unit of the Besat combined-cycle power plant in South Pars has begun full-capacity operations.

Touraj Dehqani noted the country's needs and emphasized the oil minister and the CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company's call for comprehensive support to stabilize the national power grid. He stated that the first steam production unit of the Besat combined-cycle power plant is now operating at full capacity after resolving operational constraints.

Dehqani explained that utilizing the combined-cycle section of the South Pars Besat power plant will lead to significant gas savings in electricity production. The thermal energy from exhaust gases of the centralized gas turbine power plant is recovered and used in the steam turbines of the combined-cycle section.

He added that the Besat power plant’s efficiency will improve once the combined-cycle section is fully operational. The steam unit’s output will bolster the national power grid and, if needed, support energy supply for South Pars refineries.

Dehqani emphasized that the project, built on 27 hectares of land near Bidkhun in Asaluyeh, maximizes domestic expertise and state-of-the-art equipment. It not only meets electricity generation targets but also prevents thermal energy waste from existing gas turbines.
