Iran, India discuss broadening energy ties

SHANA (Tehran) — Iran’s Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad and India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas sector during a meeting on the sidelines of the 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting on Thursday.

Paknejad met with Puri on the second day of his visit to India and emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between Tehran and New Delhi in the energy sector, according to the Iranian Oil Ministry.
The ministers reviewed opportunities for enhancing cooperation in oil and gas and explored avenues for expanding bilateral engagement in the energy sector.

Following the suspension of Iranian oil imports by Indian refiners in 2019, the level of oil-sector cooperation between the two countries declined. However, Iran and India have continued discussions on expanding energy cooperation and leveraging related capacities, including the strategic potential of Chabahar Port.
