Paknejad, who arrived in India on Wednesday, will participate in the June 25-26 gathering of BRICS energy ministers in Gurugram, where member states are expected to discuss cooperation, sustainable energy development and shared priorities in the energy sector.
Speaking upon his arrival, Paknejad highlighted the centuries-old relationship between Iran and India and said his immediate focus would be on the discussions scheduled during the BRICS meetings.
“I am here to take part in the BRICS energy ministers’ session,” Paknejad said. “We have had historical relations between Iran and India for centuries.”
The minister said he would assess the outcomes of bilateral meetings and the broader conference before commenting in detail on the issues discussed by participating countries.
Paknejad also addressed the issue of sanctions, noting that Iran is continuing its diplomatic engagement based on understandings reached with the United States. He said Tehran remains ready to pursue economic cooperation with India.
“We are ready for all the relations we can have in economic fields with India,” he said.
The BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting will review initiatives and achievements by member countries aimed at advancing sustainable energy development. Participants are also expected to explore opportunities for deeper cooperation within the BRICS framework as the bloc seeks to strengthen collaboration on energy security, transition and investment.
Paknejad is also expected to hold bilateral talks with Indian officials and energy counterparts from other BRICS member states on the sidelines of the meeting.
