Speaking Thursday at a specialized meeting reviewing the performance of the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, Pezeshkian identified the expansion of renewable energy, the electrification of transportation fleets and reducing dependence on fossil fuels as key missions for the scientific and technological sector.
He said all scientific, industrial and executive capacities should be mobilized in a coordinated manner to advance clean energy technologies and improve energy efficiency across the country.
Highlighting the need to transform Iran’s automotive industry, the president called for the development of infrastructure required for electric vehicles and smart engine technologies. He said automakers must lead technological change and align themselves with future trends in the transportation sector.
Pezeshkian described flare gas collection as a national priority, noting that billions of dollars in national resources are lost annually through gas flaring. He said the government would provide strong support for NTBFs active in flare gas recovery and utilization projects and would remove any obstacles hindering their progress.
The president also called for the development of a national program to expand rooftop solar panels, improve energy efficiency and promote technologies tailored to the country’s climatic conditions.
He stressed the importance of leveraging the capabilities of universities, students and NTBFs to address real-world challenges in the energy and environmental sectors.
Referring to the importance of energy consumption management, Pezeshkian urged closer cooperation between the scientific sector and industries to develop energy-efficient products and technologies. He said improving energy efficiency must become a national approach, with technology playing a decisive role in achieving that goal.
