According to president.ir, President Masoud Pezeshkian said Wednesday, July 22, that the upcoming visit marks a turning point in strengthening strategic ties between the two countries. He called for full coordination among executive bodies to finalize cooperation agreements and implement economic, trade, security and infrastructure deals.

Pezeshkian described relations between Iran and Iraq as distinguished and deep, rooted in shared history, culture, religion and mutual interests. He said the visit could open a new chapter in comprehensive cooperation and strategic relations between the two nations.

The president stressed that all executive agencies must coordinate fully to ensure the visit produces tangible, lasting improvements in bilateral relations, particularly in trade, investment and infrastructure development.

He also emphasized the private sector's role in expanding economic ties, saying cooperation between Iranian and Iraqi businesses should be a priority during the visit, since sustainable economic relations cannot be achieved without effective private-sector participation.

Pezeshkian affirmed that executive bodies are fully prepared to host the visit and to follow up closely on the implementation of agreements and cooperation documents.

The special session, held under Iran-Iraq's Joint Economic Cooperation Commission, was chaired by Pezeshkian and attended by economic ministers, the foreign minister, the Central Bank of Iran governor, relevant officials and private-sector representatives.

Participants reviewed joint cooperation documents drafted over recent months by specialized committees from both countries, finalizing them for signing during upcoming high-level meetings.

The session also addressed cooperation in trade, investment, transportation, transit, customs, agriculture, energy, banking and finance, and infrastructure development, along with strategies for implementing existing agreements.

Officials further assessed prospects for deepening strategic cooperation, including joint projects, expanded economic ties, closer regional coordination and new areas of collaboration to be presented at upcoming high-level meetings between the two countries.
