No Gas Shortage in Winter

TEHRAN Dec 14 (Shana): This winter will be tough but if people save gas consumption the county will face no problem in view of meeting gas needs, Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zanganeh said.

Over the recent months, several meetings have been held to review the situation of gas supply, the level of gas storage, and gas consumption by different sectors including residential, commercial and industrial sectors in a bid to lay the groundwork for supplying adequate gas in winter.

Round the clock efforts for launching at least one train at phases 15&16 of South Pars gas field and part of phase 12 are among the other efforts being underway to raise gas supply in winter.

Meanwhile managing director of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) asked people to take saving gas consumption serious. Gas consumption rose significantly last week due to cold weather which raised gas consumption to 415 mcm in residential and commercial areas.

It is forecasted gas consumption rise to more than 700 mcm/d in the cold days of winter. Switching power plants’ fuel consumption from natural gas to fuel oil as well as gas draw form Serajeh gas storage facility are the other ways for supplying adequate gas in winter.
