Energy conservation a national responsibility

SHANA (Tehran) – Conserving energy and managing consumption efficiently is a shared national responsibility that can help sustain public services, support production and reduce pressure on infrastructure, the spokesperson for the Parliament’s Economic Committee said.

Hakem Mamkan said that some petrochemical facilities and oil and gas installations sustained damage during the Third Imposed War. However, he expressed confidence that the facilities would be rebuilt and returned to operation as quickly as possible, citing the management capabilities within Iran’s oil industry.

He said Iran’s adversaries, alongside media campaigns and economic pressure, are also seeking to target the country’s infrastructure and public morale. Despite these challenges, Mamkan said the Iranian people have consistently demonstrated solidarity and a sense of responsibility during difficult periods.

“Today, energy consumption management is not merely an economic recommendation,” he said. “It is part of the country’s broader effort to navigate exceptional circumstances.” He added that any reduction in unnecessary energy use would contribute to the stability of public services, support industrial production and ease strain on critical infrastructure.

Mamkan also highlighted the role of media organizations and cultural institutions in raising public awareness and promoting energy-saving practices. He noted that a significant portion of the country’s energy consumption is linked to inefficient usage patterns and said changes in consumption behavior across households, government offices and industrial sectors could substantially reduce pressure on service networks.

He stressed that protecting national resources and improving energy efficiency are not solely government responsibilities. “Energy management is a public and national duty,” Mamkan said, expressing confidence that broad public cooperation would help the country overcome upcoming energy-related challenges.
