Lawmaker calls for ‘resistance economy’ in energy sector

SHANA (Tehran) – The head of the Parliament’s Economic Committee stressed the need to reduce gasoline consumption, saying current conditions require the implementation of a resistance economy model across multiple sectors, including fuel and energy.

Shamseddin Hosseini said fuel conservation and consumption management are essential under the country’s current circumstances.

He noted that this year’s slogan emphasizes a resistance economy alongside national unity and national security, adding that the country’s situation demands the adoption of such policies in sectors including fuel and energy.

Hosseini said that despite attacks on some oil storage facilities, the public had not experienced fuel shortages. However, he added that difficulties in fuel imports under current conditions make it necessary to reconsider fuel consumption quotas to help ensure uninterrupted fuel supply across the country.

He said the public understands that such measures are being taken out of necessity.

The senior lawmaker also praised the performance of Iran’s oil industry over the past year and during the second and third imposed wars. He said one of the public’s main concerns during wartime is securing sufficient fuel supplies and added that the Oil Ministry’s performance during the 12-day conflict and the Ramadan war has been evident to the public.

Hosseini said the Oil Ministry has maintained an acceptable performance record despite damage to some oil facilities and infrastructure.
