MP: Oil industry measures will thwart enemy’s naval blockade

SHANA (Tehran) – The deputy chairman of Parliament’s Energy Committee said measures taken by the oil industry will render any enemy naval blockade ineffective.

Ramezanali Sangdovini said the enemy has miscalculated in attempting to blockade Iran by sea, adding that with proper planning and action by oil industry workers, such efforts will fail.

He said that although some facilities in the South Pars gas field were targeted, continuous efforts by oil and gas workers prevented any disruption in nationwide gas distribution. He added that timely measures also ensured no problems for the public in the production and distribution of petroleum products, especially gasoline.

Sangdovini also addressed energy consumption management, saying cooperation between the Oil Ministry and the Energy Ministry, along with more efficient public consumption, will help the country get through the upcoming summer with minimal difficulty.

Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad recently said US actions regarding a naval blockade of Iran violate international law and, with the measures in place, will not succeed.
