It was the first project for which National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) signed an agreement with a consortium of France’s Total, China’s CNPCI and Iran’s Petropars under the newly-developed Iran Petroleum Contract (IPC) framework. Total and CNPCI pulled out of the project after the US exited the Iran nuclear deal and re-imposed sanctions on Iran. Petropars is now the sole operator of the project.
