Mechanism for fuel quotas on newly registered vehicles to Be decided by working group

SHANA (Tehran) - The oil minister said a working group made up of relevant agencies will determine the mechanism and timeline for ending gasoline quotas for newly registered vehicles. He said the decision will be based on consensus and aligned with economic and social conditions.

Mohsen Paknejad said Tuesday that a working group consisting of the Interior Ministry, the Intelligence Ministry, the Oil Ministry, the Plan and Budget Organization, and the Organization for Optimization and Strategic Energy Management has been formed to set the framework and timeline for removing gasoline quotas on newly registered vehicles. He said the group’s decisions will be made by consensus and in accordance with current economic and social circumstances to determine when new vehicles will no longer receive the 60-liter and 100-liter quotas.
He added that the group will also review how the policy applies not only to newly registered vehicles but also to vehicles in special and free-trade zones, imported vehicles, and even government vehicles included in the framework.
Explaining the definition of “newly registered,” the minister said it refers to vehicles receiving license plates for the first time after leaving the factory.
