Oil Ministry-task force collaboration boosts fuel reserves

SHANA (Tehran) – The head of Iran’s National Energy Imbalance Task Force said fuel reserves have improved compared with last year, crediting close cooperation between the Oil Ministry and the task force as key to managing the country’s energy supply and demand.

Ramazanali Sangdovini said the task force was established to coordinate ministries and energy companies to better manage fuel and electricity supply, balance consumption, and prevent shortages during peak demand seasons.

“This new body was created through collaboration between Parliament and the administration to strengthen coordination among agencies and reduce energy imbalances,” he said. “The task force has emphasized that the country’s energy basket should not rely solely on gas and electricity, and that renewable sources such as solar and wind energy must receive more serious attention.”

Sangdovini said the most recent meeting of the task force focused on securing sufficient energy for the cold season. “Reports and demands from executive agencies were reviewed to ensure the least possible disruption this winter in supplying energy—especially for residential and industrial electricity, winter fuel, gas, and power plants,” he said.

Meeting on preventing winter gas shortages

Sangdovini noted that the task force was formed under the directive of the Parliament speaker, who instructed the Energy Committee to collect and review proposals and reports from relevant ministries and submit a consolidated plan.

“Following the energy minister’s attendance at a parliamentary oversight session, we held a follow-up meeting with the minister and his deputies, as well as joint sessions with the Oil and Energy ministries,” he said. “A summary of those discussions will be submitted to the speaker, and subsequent meetings will continue to monitor progress on addressing energy imbalances.”

He added that a special meeting on preventing winter gas shortages was held last week with the participation of the oil minister, members of Parliament’s Energy and Industry and Mining Committees, and other lawmakers. The purpose was to ensure close coordination between the Oil and Energy ministries for stable gas supplies through the winter.

Sangdovini said fuel reserves, including diesel, fuel oil, and other petroleum products, have improved significantly compared with last year. “The National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company has taken strong measures in this area, and we expect to pass the cold season smoothly with adequate fuel supplies,” he said.

The member of Parliament’s Energy Committee called the Oil Ministry’s engagement with the Energy Imbalance Task Force “important and decisive.” He added that senior managers from the National Iranian Gas Company and the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company have regularly attended task force meetings and provided updates on fuel reserves, supply programs, and potential challenges.

“Overall, the cooperation between the Oil Ministry and the task force has been positive,” he said. “This collaboration is the key to successfully managing the country’s energy balance.”
