Marun Oil and Gas Company reports full achievement of production program

SHANA (Tehran) – Marun Oil and Gas Production Co. has fully achieved its crude oil production program, significantly reduced gas flaring, localized key strategic equipment and carried out major infrastructure and social projects in neighboring areas, the company’s managing director said.

On the occasion of Government Week, Managing Director Qobad Naseri outlined the company’s one-year performance, calling the near-100% fulfillment of its crude oil production plan the company’s most important achievement under Iran’s 14th administration.

Naseri described Marun Oil and Gas as a central operator in transporting crude from fields west and east of the Karun River to refineries and export hubs. Covering an area of 3,080 square kilometers, the company manages the Marun, Kupal and Shadegan fields, accounting for 15% of the nation’s crude output.

Boosting output, preserving resources

Through well repairs, upgrades and development, the company has increased output while avoiding production losses during maintenance. Projects included constructing 18 kilometers of pipeline between Marun production units to prevent daily losses of up to 25,000 barrels during maintenance. Another 17-kilometer pipeline raised production by reopening shut-in wells, while mobile oil separators and processing units returned more than 150,000 barrels of crude to production.

Process improvements also prevented the burning of 20 million cubic feet of gas per day, Naseri said. Gas recovery projects at Marun reduced flaring by another 16 million cubic feet daily, while a key gas injection unit with a capacity of 350 million cubic feet per day was restarted.

Engineering, domestic innovation

Naseri highlighted several engineering milestones, including the design and construction of a 10,000-barrel-per-day electrostatic desalter built entirely in-house, and a mobile oil separator with a 5,000-barrel-per-day capacity. The company also overhauled and relocated a 55,000-barrel desalter to improve export crude quality, installed new pumps to handle produced water, and localized more than 6,600 process equipment parts with domestic firms.

Among the flagship projects was the successful launch of “Tida,” the first Iranian-made advanced gas turbine, installed at Marun’s No. 4 gas compression station. Producing 4,500 horsepower, it surpasses comparable foreign models that are restricted under sanctions.

Infrastructure, social investments

Marun is also supporting broader initiatives, including an €8.5 million water treatment plant serving its industrial complexes and a major overpass bridge across the Jarahi River for oil and gas pipelines.

On the social front, Naseri said the company’s work has had “a profound impact” on nearby communities. Recent initiatives include building and renovating schools, supplying 5,000 stationery packages for underprivileged students, improving roads, renovating mosques and clinics, and funding transport for students. The company has also supported local events, Arbaeen pilgrimages, and aid programs for low-income families.

Additionally, Marun replaced 74 aging operational vehicles with new Toyota Hilux pickups, cutting fuel use, improving safety and reducing environmental impacts. Another 35 vehicles are scheduled to be added.
