The imports, which follow approval by the Cabinet in Nov. 2024, and provisions in the 2025 national budget law, are a key policy under the 14th administration. Officials said the program is now in its final stages of implementation.
Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad said premium gasoline will be offered as a new service to consumers, separate from subsidized fuel quotas. “The 60- and 100-liter quotas remain unchanged, and the prices of 1,500 and 3,000 tomans will stay in place,” he said.
The ministry emphasized that the fuel will be priced strictly according to import costs, without subsidies, in order to ease pressure on subsidized gasoline and curb incentives for smuggling. Officials added that the measure is intended to ensure transparency in the fuel market and to prevent additional costs to the government.
Authorities said five licenses for imports have already been granted to qualified private companies, which will supply the product at selected fuel stations. The government expects this move to open opportunities for new private investment in higher-quality fuels.
The Oil Ministry described the program not as a temporary step but as part of a broader strategy to manage consumption, protect national resources and stabilize the energy market.

SHANA (Tehran) — Iran is set to begin importing premium gasoline to meet the needs of certain vehicles and balance supply and distribution in the domestic fuel network, the Oil Ministry announced.
