100-year-old gasoline consumption record broken in Tehran Province

SHANA (Tehran) – Tehran Governor General Mohammad-Sadeq Motehmadian announced that 28 million liters of gasoline were consumed in a single day, stating that despite the unprecedented surge in demand, fuel supply was maintained without issues.

During a televised interview, Motehmadian noted that last Friday’s unusual circumstances led to a mass exodus of vehicles from Tehran, causing gasoline consumption in the province to spike to a level unmatched in the past century.

He explained that part of the surge was due to public concerns over potential fuel shortages, prompting long lines at gas stations as people rushed to fill up.

"The Oil Ministry, the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, and its CEO performed exceptionally to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply for the people," the governor general emphasized.

Motehmadian credited effective management for stabilizing the situation, highlighting that fuel card withdrawal limits helped regulate consumption. On the first day of restrictions, gasoline use dropped by 4 to 5 million liters.
