Alireza Sarmadi noted that plans are in place to conduct overhauls on 35 South Pars gas platforms. He said the Phase 14 platform overhaul was successfully completed after 8,250 safe man-hours of work, with the participation of specialized repair, support, and operations teams.
Sarmadi reported that 1,130 repair work orders were executed on the Phase 14 platforms. According to inspections conducted on the SPD14A and SPD14C platforms, tasks such as tank inspections, cleaning, welding, pressure control valve calibration, platform control system inspections and testing, emergency power card replacements, flare igniter inspections and replacements, and the replacement of a 2-inch wastewater outlet line were successfully completed.
Highlighting the simultaneous execution of preventive maintenance alongside the annual overhaul, Sarmadi said a key milestone was the separation and replacement of a 32-inch pipeline bend on the SPD14A platform—one of this year’s most complex and critical repair operations.
Following smart pigging and corrosion detection by the inspection unit, the operation was initiated. After depressurizing and securing the gas and liquid-filled pipeline, the defective bend was cut out. The replacement piece, which underwent quality control checks by engineering and technical inspection teams and passed onshore tests, was installed alongside the motorized valve pig launcher connector in six working days across two shifts.
Sarmadi said the platforms have been restarted and returned to production after the overhaul. Meanwhile, the overhaul of South Pars Phase 12 offshore platforms is underway, with each platform expected to undergo an average of 7 to 10 days of monitoring and repairs.
By conducting annual inspections and executing major and preventive maintenance on South Pars gas platforms, POGC is preparing to maximize and sustain energy production, particularly for the second half of the current Iranian year (to start September 23).
