ICOFC reports 10 mcm increase in gas production

SHANA (Tehran) – The CEO of Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC) highlighted the company’s major role in supplying the country’s onshore gas while simultaneously managing production and development operations.

Peyman Imani announced over 13 startup operations in the second half of 1403 and significant gas production growth in newly developed fields.

Imani, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the third day of the 29th International Oil, Gas, Refining & Petrochemical Exhibition (Iran Oil Show 2025), said the company is responsible for supplying gas to 14 onshore provinces. Its operations are managed through three subsidiaries: East Oil and Gas Production Company in the northeast, West Oil and Gas Production Company in the west, and South Zagros Oil and Gas Production Company in the southern and central regions.

He added that the company’s activities are not limited to production. ICOFC is one of the few companies handling both production maintenance and field development. With Iran’s growing energy demands, new development contract models are being prioritized, though negotiations and finalizing such deals remain time-consuming.

Imani noted that the company, under the National Iranian Oil Company, is directly responsible for developing several gas fields, including the Tus field in the northeast and others in the southern and central Zagros region.

10 mcm rise in gas output

Referring to last year’s performance, Imani said that out of the 30 million cubic meters per day added to Iran’s gas supply, over 10 million cubic meters came from ICOFC’ efforts. Additionally, the company contributed 13,000 barrels per day to the country’s increased oil production through development and maintenance projects.

Among last year’s key achievements was the development of the new Day gas field, which began initial production at 2.4 million cubic meters per day and is now operating at 3 million cubic meters daily, with potential expansion to 5 million. About 50% of the field’s engineering and construction capacity is now operational.

Another major project was the launch of the Varavi gas pressure boosting station, which helped stabilize production during peak winter demand.

13 startup operations in second half of 1403

Imani reported strong performance in production maintenance and drilling, with 13 small and large startup operations completed between September 2024 and March 2025—averaging two new production events per month. Key fields involved included Khanjiran in the northeast and the fourth phase of Dalan, which began operations in March 2025.

Preparations for these projects started in September 2023, with accelerated implementation from mid-November. Many have since been completed.

Emergency gas field development plan aims for 130 mcm daily

Imani announced the approval of an emergency gas field development plan by the Oil Ministry, requiring $4.3 billion in funding. Once fully implemented, it will boost production by up to 130 million cubic meters per day during peak demand.

While past focus was on shared fields like South Pars, recent gas supply concerns prompted the emergency plan for domestic fields, assigned to ICOFC. Development work—including drilling, equipment procurement, road construction, and pipeline installation—is underway in the Tous, Day, and Khartang fields.

The Day field expansion will be operational by year-end, while Tus is set to begin production in winter, adding 3 million cubic meters daily to the northeast’s supply. Though Khartang is not a formal obligation, plans include drilling at least one well due to its operational demands.

Imani added that production exceeded targets from September 2024 to mid-April 2025 due to cold weather. Current output remains on track, with readiness to increase if needed.

The 29th International Oil, Gas, Refining & Petrochemical Exhibition (Iran Oil Show 2025) runs for four days at Tehran Permanent International Fairgrounds, open to visitors from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
