5.5% rise in Nowruz travel with historic fuel consumption record

SHANA (Tehran) – The head of Iran’s Traffic Police announced that during the Nowruz 2024 operations, a historic fuel consumption record was broken, reaching 164 million liters on March 19, while travel increased by 5.5% compared to last year.

Teymour Hosseini, speaking at an open session of Parliament on Tuesday, April 15, during a review of service quality and executive measures by transportation authorities for Nowruz travelers, stated: “This year’s Nowruz plan saw significant changes compared to previous years, yielding better results across all key indicators. However, fuel consumption rose by about 9%, with the historic record of 164 million liters broken on March 19.”

He added: “Intercity and intracity travel increased by 5.5% compared to last year. Due to higher traffic volume and the need for strict enforcement against violations, police had to impose stricter measures this year.”

The Traffic Police chief emphasized the need for public cooperation and private-sector investment in smart traffic services, calling on Parliament to provide necessary support in this area.
