Tehran Refinery increases gasoline production by 1.2m liters

SHANA (Tehran) - The CEO of Tehran Oil Refining Company announced that since the start of the 14th administration, gasoline production has increased from 6.3 million liters to 7.5 million liters per day due to a 2,000-barrel-per-day rise in feedstock capacity.

Abbas Mohseni-Nikugoftar stated that the increase was achieved by utilizing idle gasoline production units and securing feedstock from other refineries.
He added that several expansion projects are underway at the Tehran refinery, aimed at producing high-value-added products, diversifying output, enhancing operational stability and addressing the country’s fuel imbalance.

Significant progress has been made on these projects, he noted, including key initiatives such as:

- The gasoline quality improvement plan (CCR project)

- Urban wastewater transfer and treatment within the refinery

- Comprehensive fuel oil quality enhancement

- Hexane solvent production

- Construction of a 63-kilovolt power substation

- Flare gas recovery (FGR)

- A 500-megawatt solar power plant

- Spent caustic treatment

Several of these projects are expected to become operational in 1404.

Mohseni-Nikugoftar highlighted the CCR project as one of the capital’s largest environmental initiatives, designed to reduce crude oil sales and boost both the quantity and quality of gasoline production. Once completed, the refinery’s entire gasoline output will meet Euro 5 standards, significantly cutting urban pollution.

The $354 million project, along with a 39 trillion rial domestic investment, is underway, with operational units slated for completion by the first half of 1405.

He also emphasized the refinery’s commitment to social responsibility, citing the wastewater treatment project as a key example. Once implemented, the refinery will treat 19 million cubic meters of southern Tehran’s wastewater annually for industrial use, reducing municipal drinking water consumption by 5.1%—a major step in addressing Iran’s water crisis.
