Residential gas usage surges as temperatures drop

SHANA (Tehran) – The spokesperson for the National Iranian Gas Company reported a rise in gas consumption in the residential, commercial, and small-scale industrial sectors as temperatures dropped. He stated that 75% of the total gas delivered to the network yesterday was consumed by these sectors.

Hassan Mousavi noted that on Monday (February 24), 862 million cubic meters (mcm) of natural gas were produced and delivered to the national network.

He added that 75% of the total natural gas supplied to the network was allocated to the residential, commercial, and small-scale industrial sectors.

Mousavi emphasized that gas consumption in these sectors increased by 6% compared to the same day last year, as temperatures fell across most provinces.

The spokesperson for the National Iranian Gas Company stated that 645 mcm of gas were consumed by the residential, commercial, and small-scale industrial sectors.

Following the cold weather and forecasts of further temperature drops, President Masoud Pezeshkian, Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad, and other officials urged the public to participate in the "2 Degrees Less" campaign. Through video and written messages, they called for optimal energy use and cooperation in ensuring winter fuel supply.
