Sulfur recovery unit at South Pars Phase 14 launched to protect environment

SHANA (Tehran) – The deputy of development projects at Pars Oil and Gas Company stated that the goal of launching the sulfur recovery unit at the South Pars Phase 14 refinery is to eliminate sulfur compounds from the refinery’s flares to protect the environment and produce 400 tons of sulfur daily.

Hamidreza Masoudi, speaking on Thursday on the sidelines of the launch of the desulfurization unit at South Pars Phase 14, noted that the project involved over 183,000 cubic meters of excavation, more than 34,000 cubic meters of concrete pouring, over 5,500 tons of steel structure installation, more than 4,500 tons of equipment installation, 303,000 inches of piping, and approximately 500 kilometers of cable laying.

He highlighted that one of the key features of the Phase 14 refinery’s 108-unit operation, compared to other gas refineries in the shared field, is the simultaneous completion and launch of the five sections of the sulfur recovery unit.

These sections include the Acid Gas Enrichment (AGE) unit, incinerator, Claus 3, Claus 4, and TGTU. Masoudi added that the unit was commissioned with an investment of over $120 million, in collaboration with Pars Oil and Gas Company as the project employer, MAPNA Group as the contractor, Exir Company as the executive contractor, and POMC as the unit’s commissioning contractor.

South Pars Phase 14 has been launched with the aim of producing 56 million cubic meters of rich gas daily and 75,000 barrels of gas condensates per day.

The project, with an investment of approximately $5.2 billion, was awarded to a consortium led by Pars Oil and Gas Company. The consortium includes the Iran Industrial Development and Renovation Organization (IDRO), Iran Industrial Projects Management Company, Iran Marine Industrial Company, National Iranian Drilling Company, Iran Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries Complex Company, MAPNA Group, Paydan Company, and Arak Machine Manufacturing Company.
