Fuel supply to power plants doubled

SHANA (Tehran) – The government spokesperson announced that the delivery of diesel fuel to power plants has doubled, marking a 100% increase.

Fatemeh Mohajerani made the remarks during a news conference on Tuesday, expressing gratitude to the public for their participation in the "2 Degrees Less" campaign aimed at addressing the energy imbalance issue.

She apologized for the hardships faced by the people and industry due to these issues, adding that she hopes to navigate through the current situation with collective support.

The official noted that through public participation in the 2 Degrees Less campaign, gas consumption has been reduced by 5% and electricity consumption by 3%.

If this can be increased to 10% through greater public involvement and maintaining a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius, the country will be able to move past this phase.

Emphasizing the government’s commitment to preventing power outages, she stated that it is neither appropriate nor acceptable for a country like Iran, with significant oil and gas reserves, to experience blackouts. She suggested that acknowledging the realities can help overcome current challenges.

Mohajerani specified that the supply of diesel fuel to power plants has truly increased by 200%. She warned that cuts to gas and electricity in the industrial sector—especially during summer and winter—can severely harm this vital production area.

She requested permission to consult specialists about exact figures and promised to provide an analysis of losses at a later date.

She added that history and experience show that relying on public support leads to overcoming problems. With the efforts of the ministries of energy and oil, she expressed hope that collaboration with the public will help the country through this critical time.

On the topic of fuel smuggling, Mohajerani stated that following the president's special directive, both his representative for combating smuggling and relevant ministries have been tasked with reviewing the issue closely and providing a comprehensive report on the current situation.

She explained that this initiative aims to bring order and transparency to the reported figures, which indicate a discrepancy ranging from 20 to 30 million liters, suggesting these numbers may not be accurate.

The president, as the head of the executive branch, continuously follows up on these concerns and has issued necessary directives.
