Tehran-Ashgabat Deal Turning Iran Into a Gas Hub

SHANA (Tehran) - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called the Tehran and Ashgabat gas agreement a strategic measure that turns Iran into a regional gas hub.

 Addressing a joint meeting of the high-ranking delegations of Iran and Turkmenistan on Wednesday, August 28, Masoud Pezeshkian further said that the agreement secures the interests of both sides.

He described the deep-rooted and historical relations between Iran and Turkmenistan as a suitable ground for expanding bilateral cooperation adding Iran is committed to the previous bilateral agreements and is fully prepared to remove the obstacles facing the development of cooperation.

He continued: I will personally follow up on the implementation of the previous agreements and hope in my next visit to Ashgabat, we will witness the realization and full implementation of those agreements.

Expanding cooperation in the energy, transit, electricity sectors, cooperation between the two countries in the gas and petrochemical sector, exporting technical and engineering services, targeting the transit of 20 million tons of goods between the two countries, facilitating the issuance of visas, developing cooperation in ports and maritime sectors, corridors and road and rail transportation were among the most important issues the ministers of energy, petroleum, road and urban development of Iran discussed at the meeting of the high-ranking delegations of Iran and Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, Gurbanguly Bardimohamedow, the national leader of Turkmenistan, emphasized the importance of the development of relations between the two countries and expressed his satisfaction with the regional and international cooperation between Tehran and Ashgabat, underlining his government's determination to support Iran's initiatives on the world scene.

Referring to Turkmenistan's efforts to establish peace and stability in the region, he emphasized Ashgabat's interest in developing security cooperation between the two countries noting Turkmenistan is also interested in developing trade and economic relations with Iran including cooperation in the Caspian Sea.
