MP calls Russia strategic partner of Iran in energy sector

SHANA (Tehran) – A member of the Iranian Parliament’s Energy Committee said on Saturday promotion of energy diplomacy is key to the development of the oil and gas industry and referred to Russia as the strategic partner of Iran in the energy sector.

Talking to SHANA days after the 17th Iran-Russia Joint Economic Commission held in Tehran, Hossein Hosseinzadeh added Russia can help Iran develop oil and gas fields and boost production.

The lawmaker, who called for accelerating the implementation of Iran-Russia contracts and described their gas cooperation as “positive”, said Russia is known as a big gas exporter in the world and Iran has to make good use of the opportunity.

“I am convinced if cooperation with countries such as Russia is promoted, it will help increase oil exports and develop the oil industry,” the MP underlined.

Tehran and Moscow signed 19 cooperation documents during the closing ceremony of the 17th Joint Economic Commission between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation in Tehran on Wednesday.
