Oil extraction from South Azadegan joint field up 50,000 bpd

SHANA (Ahvaz) – Oil extraction from the South Azadegan field rose by 50,000 barrels per day (bpd) as Iran’s Oil Minister Javad Owji issued an order via videoconference for exploiting 60 new wells on Tuesday.

Accompanied by National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Managing Director Mohsen Khojastehmehr, Owji inaugurated several projects during his one-day visit to the southwestern province of Khuzestan.

The South Azadegan field is located 80 kilometers west of Ahvaz, the capital city of Khuzestan Province, and shared with Iraq.

The joint field has 203 wells, two collection units in the south and the north, and one Central Treatment Export Plant (CTEP).

Of the 203 wells, 163 have been drilled for boosting the field’s output and 60 new ones have been interconnected.

Following the increase in the field’s production, its northern separation unit was launched and now 25,000 barrels of oil are transferred from the South Azadegan field to the desalination unit.
