Spokesman: 20-year reliance on foreign promises about SP Phase 11 yielded no result

SHANA (Tehran) – Iran’s government spokesman on Monday wrote that 20-year reliance on foreigners’ promises about development of Phase 11 of the South Pars (SP) gas field in the Persian Gulf produced no result.

Posting his views on “X”, the new name of Twitter account, Ali Bahadori Jahromi added, “After taking office, the popular government assigned the task to young Iranian experts and their efforts have now borne fruit after 20 months.”

Earlier in the day, Iran’s President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi inaugurated SP Phase 11.

Delivering speech at the Phase 11 inauguration ceremony, Oil Minister Javad Owji said Phase 11 was officially put into operation while foreign companies, including Total, Shell, and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) did nothing for its development in the past 20 years.

He added, “We managed to start production in Phase 11 four years earlier by moving and installing a platform, leaving former contractors Total and CNPC bewildered.”
