Gachsaran olefin project comes on stream

SHANA (Tehran) – The olefin project of Gachsaran, southwestern Iran, was inaugurated by President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi on Monday.

Having an annual capacity of one million tons of ethylene and 84,000 tons of C3+ production, the olefin project was put into operation with an investment of some 1.3 billion euros in the presence of Raeisi and Oil Minister Javad Owji 19 years after its ratification.

Fed with 1.25 million tons of ethane by Persian Gulf Bidboland Gas Refining Company through a 90km pipeline per year, Gachsaran Petrochemical Complex produces one million tons of ethylene and 84,000 tons of C3+, generating revenue and supplying the feedstock of complexes on the route of the West Ethylene Pipeline (WEP) and also petrochemical complexes of Mamassani, Dehdasht, Boroujen, Kazeroun, Gachsaran Polymer.

Kowsar dam supplies Gachsaran Petrochemical Complex with 12 million cubic meters of water per annum, the national grid supplies it with 53,900 cubic meters of gas per hour, and Khuzestan Power Distribution Company supplies the complex with 50 MW of electricity.   

The main equipment of Gachsaran Petrochemical Complex has been designed, manufactured and installed in collaboration with knowledge-based firms and more than 70 Iranian companies. Over 83 percent of its equipment has been manufactured inside Iran, saving 269 million euros.
