NPC head: Iran to add 12 new petchem complexes this year

SHANA (Tehran) -- Iran will add 12 new petrochemical complexes in the current Iranian calendar year (to end March 19, 2024), National Petrochemical Company (NPC) managing director said here on Saturday.

Today, nine agreements and nine memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed with local companies while we were dependent on foreign firms in early years after the victory of the Islamic Revolution , Morteza Shahmirzaei said at a press conference held at the 27th Iran International Oil, Gas, ‎Refining and ‎Petrochemical Exhibition, also ‎known as Iran Oil Show 2023.

Upon launching the new plans, 12 new petrochemical complexes will be added to the country, he said, adding, “Hoveizeh Gas Refinery of the Persian Gulf came on stream last month.”

All petrochemical industry investors as well as all local technological experts and manufacturers need to help complete unfinished projects, he noted, adding, “Thus, the National Petrochemical Company tries to gain self-sufficiency and provide goods and equipment needed in the industry by local manufacturers.”

Iranian scientists and experts are capable of gaining self-sufficiency in petrochemical industry, Shahmirzaei emphasized, saying, “NPC has planned to become self-sufficient in catalyst production by the end of the incumbent administration, and in manufacturing goods and equipment in at least next five to six years. We need to focus on indigenizing technical know-how.”
