Dubai - Abu Dhabi Gas Industries (Gasco) said on Tuesday it had signed a 1.458-billion-dollar deal with the US company Bechtel to build and put in commission a giant gas plant in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
A statement reported by the official WAM news agency said the project would treat 1.3 billion cubic feet (36.8 million cubic meters) of natural gas
per day to produce some 125000 barrels of condensates and 12000 tons of liquefied natural gas.
The signing of the contract, awarded last November, took place in Abu Dhabi.
The project, dubbed Onshore Gas Development Phase III (OGD-III), will be managed by Bechtel's London office and will go on stream in the first
quarter of 2008.
Abu Dhabi is one of the seven members of the UAE. Besides wanting to
meet its own natural gas needs through exploiting its reserves it also wants to import natural gas from neighbors such as Qatar, Oman and Iran.
