Iran, Russia Deputy Ministers Discuss Bilateral Ties

SHANA (Tehran) – Iran’s deputy petroleum minister for international affairs and trading here on Tuesday held talks on bilateral relations with the Russian deputy economic development minister.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Vladimir Evgen'yevich Ilichev explored all avenues to promote Moscow-Tehran cooperation during his meeting with Ahmad Asadzadeh.

Iran and Russia are scheduled to hold a meeting on bilateral cooperation in the energy sector in Tehran on Wednesday.

Russia’s visiting Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak will have meetings with Iranian officials on trade and transport.

Iran’s Roads and Urban Development Minister Rostam Qassemi said they will discuss the transit of goods from Russia to Asian markets, like India, via Iran.

On May 7, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs Mehdi Safari announced that Novak will attend a meeting of the Iran-Russia Joint Economic Commission.

Iran and Russia have vast oil and gas reserves and enjoy high geopolitical status. The two countries can change the equation in international energy and economic sectors.
