Wells Secured in Nowruz Offshore Field

TEHRAN (Shana) -- The final safety operation of the erupted wells No. 5, 6, 7 and 8 in Nowruz offshore field was successfully performed by the diving teams of Khark Underwater Repairs.

According to the Iranian Offshore Oil Company, the wells that caught fire due to the enemy's air attack during the imposed war of Iraq on Iran and had erupted in the same years of 1982 and 1983, were controlled by an offshore divers group who carried out an initiative under water.

However, with 99 days of continuous and round-the-clock operation, cooperation of DCI-2 drilling rig specialists, and about 24,750 minutes of diving operations, the wells became ready to be operated from the seabed.

Due to the complete destruction of the platform section of the wells during the war and the erosion of a large part of the underwater structure over the last 35 years, two of the four wells on the 5th Nowruz platform were tilted and fell on the underwater scissors, which were verticalized with the efforts and measures taken by the underwater repair experts and the installation of various underwater retainers and restraints, but due to the winter and severe storms, this operation was repeated several times.

To help the drilling team to secure the abandoned 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th wells of Nowruz Field, more than 30 drilling operations were carried out for sampling and injection of cement. Thus, concerns about re-eruption of these wells were resolved after years.
