Iran Petchem Output 150 mt/y by 2026: CEO

TEHRAN (Shana) – The CEO of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) said Iran’s petrochemical production capacity would reach 150 million tons per year by 2026.

According to NPC, Behzad Mohammadi, who is also the Deputy Minister of Petroleum for Petrochemical Affairs, said new policies were being defined for the intelligent development of the petrochemical industry in Iran, adding the envisaged production capacity would be materialized once strategic, propulsion and combined feedstock projects come on stream across the country.

During a visit to the Arak site of the Petrochemical Research and Technology Company (PRTC), the official said given the strategic planning taking place in the industry, the sector has moved towards more smart development and based on this, the development path of this industry will have higher resilience and less vulnerability.

He stated that by 2026, 134 petrochemical plants will be operating in Iran with an annual production capacity of 150 million tons.

The NPC CEO further announced development of polypropylene plants by dipping into Iranian savvy.

He emphasized the prominent and effective role of PRTC in the path of smart and sustainable development of the petrochemical industry, and said the efforts made at PRTC in production of key catalysts have rendered the country self-sufficient in production of the items.
