Gas deliveries to petchem industry up 19.4%

SHANA (Tehran) – The head of the National Iranian Gas Company said gas deliveries to the petrochemical industry rose 19.4% above the company’s commitments despite the onset of colder weather this fall.

According to NIGC, CEO Saeid Tavakoli said that as temperatures dropped and gas consumption increased in the household, commercial and small industrial sectors, more than 1.437 billion cubic meters of additional gas were supplied to petrochemical plants compared with the same period last year. He said the increase reflects the gas industry’s maximum effort to support production, strengthen the value chain and boost foreign exchange earnings.

Tavakoli added that even during the autumn quarter, gas deliveries to petrochemical companies exceeded set commitments by as much as 19.4%. He said the figures clearly show that the company’s approach has been, and remains, to ensure stable feedstock supply for industries and support production.

Referring to the need for a realistic assessment of winter conditions in the national gas network, Tavakoli said restrictions imposed at certain times are not due to financial issues or outstanding debts, but rather to the winter consumption pattern and the priority given to supplying the household and commercial sectors.

He emphasized that when the gas network faces a sharp rise in demand during the cold season, temporary management of gas distribution is a technical and operational necessity and should not be interpreted as neglect of industry or disruption in feedstock supply.

Tavakoli said that during cold months and peak demand periods, the household, commercial and small industrial sectors account for about 80% of total national gas consumption and are always given priority.

He also stressed the role of transparency in shaping public understanding, saying fair and accurate judgments are formed when information on consumption levels, delivery volumes and outstanding claims is provided to the public simultaneously and transparently. He said the National Iranian Gas Co. remains committed to transparency and accurate information sharing and will continue this approach.

In the first six months of the current year, of the country’s total gas consumption of 113 billion cubic meters, industry accounted for 39%, power generation 43%, households 13%, public and service sectors 2% and transportation 3%.
